How to Measure Yourself When You Buy a Tartanista Kilt: A Quick & Easy Guide
Posted by Tartanista on 26th Sep 2024
Ready to buy your first kilt, but not sure how to get the perfect fit? Whether you're looking at Value Kilts, Deluxe Kilts, or Utility Kilts, measuring yourself is easier than you might think.
Follow these steps to make sure your kilt fits comfortably and looks great!
Find Your Waist Size
Men’s traditional Scottish kilts are worn higher than trousers, sitting right at your belly button.
To get your kilt waist size, simply wrap a tape measure around your waist at navel level - don’t measure at your hips like you would for trousers.
For extra clarity, check the diagram below to see exactly where to measure.
Pro Tip: If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up. You can always adjust with a belt, but a too-tight kilt? Not so comfy!
Measure the Kilt Length (Drop)
Most men's kilts have a standard length (or drop) of 24 inches (61 cm), which works great if you're between 5'8" (1.70 m) and 6'1" (1.85 m).
But don’t worry if you’re taller or shorter, we know not everyone fits those measurements. At Tartanista we also carry shorter kilts (22 inches / 55 cm) and longer kilts (26 inches / 66 cm) in some of our most popular tartans, Honour of Scotland, Black Watch, and Royal Stewart.
Just measure from your waist (at belly button level) down to the middle of your knee to find your perfect length.
