It's that time of the year again - when we gather to express our love for Celtic culture, by hosting the famous Highland Games! Maybe this year we won't be able to meet each other, but this doesn't mean that we can't cherish our love for Scottish culture!
Highland games are traditional sport events which are meant to test the strength of the competitors through events like Stone Put, Tug O’war, Hammer Throw and Hill Race. The signature event is the Caber Toss, where competitors need to toss a 150lb caber as far as possible.
Despite many of their unique sporting and athletic events involving throwing or lifting, Scottish Games are also focused on having fun, through competitions like Highland Dancing or Drums And Bagpipes.
It is said that Highland Games were originally war games, meant to discover the strongest and bravest soldiers. They remain a powerful expression of love for Scottish heritage, keeping the traditions alive both at home and abroad.
During the last century, Scottish culture was spread around the world, with more and more communities discovering their Scottish heritage and holding their own Highland Games. Some of the most popular Games around the world are hosted in countries like the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.
